 Leonard Cannady is originally from northeast Baltimore where he grew up until he came to Washington DC in 2002.He went through an extensive period of alcohol and drug addiction, which forced him into homelessness for ten years. In spite of owninghis own home at the age of nineteen, he ended up living with friends, relatives and eventually in homeless shelters. He was incarcerated off and on since the age of fifteen .Starting in 1996 he entered into a series of drug counseling programs and since March 2003 he has been sober for 21 months. With the support of drug counseling , he has made small accomplishments in his life, and is committed to helping others with similar situations to his own. Today Mr.Cannady has a stable residence in Southeast, DC and is currently employed as a recruiter specialist with the Tobacco Control Program at Howard University`s Cancer Center. He is very active in the community. He visits schools and community centers throughout the city and speaks to the students and the youth about the effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Since 1985 he has had an intrest in rap music. He has rapped on rooftops , street corners and has performed at various events in the Washington, Dc area, including the second annual father`s day rally at Freedom Plaza,National African American Tobacco Prevention Network, The African American Holiday Expo and at open mic shows in 11 states. He is actively pursuing a career in rap music that expresses his concerns about the dangers of life involving substance abuse and addiction. Unique to many rap artists today, Mr.Cannady is focused on delivering a positive messages that empowers and encourages his audience to make positive choices about life. His words are a message of hope, healing,and an appreciation for life. Mr. Cannady looks foward to a future free of drugs, becoming a successful rap artist and pursuing his intrest in cancer research.
